Hundreds of Sumit County teachers and potentially thousands more from every corner of the state are marching on the Colorado Capitol next Thursday to protest a pending cut of $150 million to state education funding.
More than 230 local teachers are joining the march, saying in a statement, “This is not a day off. This is a day of action.”
The rally, known as Statewide Day of Action, is organized by the state education union, Colorado Education Association.
In an email today Summit Schools pledged support for the teachers and Summit County Education Association, the local union.
Superintendent Doctor Tony Byrd writes, “This is a critical opportunity for our community to advocate for maintaining and improving the investments the state is making in our students, schools and educators.”
The district is partnering with other local youth organizations to make sure students have somewhere to go on Thursday. District officials ask parents to complete a childcare request formby 4 p.m. on Monday, March 17.
