Ski area snow cams capture 8+ inches from first storm

It’s (finally) beginning to look a lot like ski season!

Overnight rain on Sunday turned to snow around midnight, and then quickly piled up at snowstakes in Copper, Loveland and A-Basin.

Copper looks like the winner with a solid 10 inches. A-Basin’s snowstake is the same as always — unmarked — but we’ll call it 9 inches. The Loveland stake is showing about the same.

No opening day announcements here locally, but Wolf Creek is ready to open Tuesday, Oct. 22. Wolf Creek claims 21+ inches in four days and the FIRST chairlift skiing of the North American season.

Fresh snow also brought a fresh reminder to slow down and check your tread. A jackknifed semi closed EB I-70 between Silverthorne and the tunnels for an hour around 7 a.m. A wreck shut down Swan Mountain Road on the Summit Cove side around the same time. Another wreck briefly closed WB I-70 between Frisco and Copper around 9:30 a.m.
