Summit County swung Democrat in the 2024 election and so did Colorado.
Incumbent Democratic county commissioners Tamara Pogue and Eric Mamula hold onto their seats, beating Republican challengers Bob Cottrell and Allen Bacher by 61% and 66%, respectively.
Pogue returns for a second four-year term. Mamula wins his first full term after serving close to a year as an appointed commissioner.
Fellow appointed commissioner Nina Waters ran unopposed, as did county clerk Taryn Power.
School bond fails
Summit County issue 4A, a nearly $196 million bond issue for Summit School District, failed by a wide margin, nearly 58% against. Members of the school board were shocked into silence at the local election watch party at Highside Brewery in Frisco.
This is the first time innrecent history Summit has voted down an education measure. It would have increased property taxes to pay for a slew of improvements, including a new Breckenrkdge Elementary and an expanded campus at the high school.
Kamala-Walz take Summit
Summit was overwhelmingly blue in the presidential race, choosing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz by 69% of the vote.
Harris-Walz won Colorado by 55%
Summit’s own Julie McCluskie won the state representative race over Republican challenger Dave Williams by nearly two to one in Summit (69.7%) but a slimer margin overall (56.7%).
Democrat Joe Neguse won the U.S. Representative race by an equally impressive margin in Summit (68.9%), beating Republican challenger Marshall Dawson. Overall he ran away with 69% of the vote.
Nearly 67% of registered Summit voters cast a ballot, 14,794 people.
