Phone scammers are still scamming, and this time they went after a town of Frisco councilman.
Andy Held shared his story at this week’s council meeting, saying the scammers used the names of real police and even a real PD phone number to try and con him.
He caught them in the act with help from Frisco police chief Tom Wickman.
“It was crazy,” Held said. “Stay safe out there. It was a learning situation for me.”
Summit County sheriff Jaime FitzSimons has a reminder for anyone who gets a call from a cop.
“Law enforcement, courts, nobody will ever call you and ask for Walmart gift cards,” FitzSimons says. “In fact, we will never call you.”
