A missing handgun took the long way home recently, when a skier dropped it during a day on the slopes.
Summit County Sheriff confirms another skier found the gun, and then flew out of state with it before calling deputies. The sheriff’s office has not revealed exactly where it was found.
The finder of the firearm has since shipped it back to Summit, where it now waits in the local evidence vault for the owner to return and claim it.
Every ski area in Summit operates on U.S. Forest Service land. Open and concealed carry are allowed on Forest Service property, although you cannot bring firearms into most resort buildings.
