Fireworks might blast off in Breckenridge again.
Town council is considering a New Year’s Eve fireworks show over the slopes at Breckenridge Ski Resort.
The last show was in 2019, when town officials indefinitely canceled future fireworks for two reasons – wildfire danger and traffic congestion.
In a memo, town staff says those will not be a problem on New Year’s Eve, when “temperatures are low and the ground is generally snow covered,” and traffic is “generally limited at approximately 9:30 p.m. in late December.”
Most of town council supports NYE fireworks in Breck.
If they give the green light, the town partners with Breck Resort and a fireworks provider, Western Enterprises Fireworks, known for shows in Vail, Aspen, Keystone and more.
But summer fireworks? Not happening.
“Independence Day/July 4th fireworks were expressly not considered,” the memo continues, “given ongoing traffic congestion, emergency response, and fire danger issues during summer months.”
