The heat and hot water are back at Breckenridge Terrace, the embattled employee housing where ski resort employees reported months of deplorable living conditions.
Breckenridge Resort tells Krystal 93 all outstanding heat and hot water issues have been fixed thanks to a special maintenance team. Breck COO Jon Copeland created this team the night of Jan. 22, soon after dozens of employees refused to work in protest.
“Our teams have made a lot of progress on work orders at Breck Terrace, prioritizing access to heat and hot water,” the resort confirmed in a statement today. “At this time, issues related to heat and hot water access have been resolved and we will continue to prioritize any new work orders related to heat and hot water. We are monitoring things daily at Breck Terrace, and we also continue to have extra teams and hands on-site for maintenance support.”
In January, during a prolonged cold snap, residents told Krystal 93 there was one maintenance worker for more than 200 units at the Terrace. Others had been fired or quit.
Ground-level units reported flooding when boilers failed after a week of temperatures in the single digits Fahrenheit.
One resident said the ceiling in his bathroom had been leaking sewage for weeks before this.
Others reported health issues from black mold, stretching back as far as this past summer when they first moved in.
