Old Dillon Inn gets new life as a breakfast joint

For the first time since 2007 the historic Old Dillon Inn will have a new tenant – and it’s a brunch spot.

Local restaurant Bread and Salt was recently granted a permit for the ODI, town of Silverthorne confirms. Later this year the restaurant moves into the space, which is tucked away inside the Bluebird Market on Highway 9 between Third and Fourth streets.

This will be Bread and Salt’s third location, joining Frisco and Buena Vista.

The owners also operate Bagalis on Main Street Frisco and Doma in the Safeway complex off Exit 203 in Frisco.

The ODI is a Summit County classic. But in classic Summit County fashion its history is murky.

Here is what we know: The historic bar served its first patrons in the late 1800s. The bar itself lived inside several buildings before it was plucked from the old Dillon townsite and moved to Silverthorne in the ’50s, when Denver Water flooded the area for what is now Dillon Reservoir. In Silverthorne it sprouted a kitchen, dining room and several additions, including the name “Old Dillon Inn.” The bar served its last patron in 2007.

Silverthorne has struggled to find a tenant for the ODI. The original bar and attached dining room are cornerstones of the Bluebird Market, where contractors built a new food court around them.
