Federal staffing cuts and funding freezes are making headlines nationwide. But what do they mean for Summit County?

Local officials tell Krystal 93 they are waiting for the dust to settle on most Federal decisions, but there was one they could not ignore – gutting the U.S. Forest Service.

“A Forest Service that was already dramatically understaffed, in my opinion, is now back to being 50% staffed of where they were last summer,” county commissioner Tamara Pogue tells Krystal 93 news director Phil Lindeman. “In a community like ours, where 80% of the land is federally owned, that is a real problem. Our focus right now is to get those positions back.”
