Young mountain biker recovering at Craig Hospital from ‘nightmare’ crash

A Summit County teenager who broke his back in a mountain bike race has been at Craig Hospital now (July 1) for almost 3 weeks and his parents say he is progressing quickly. Jamison Lee is going through physical therapy, occupational therapy, strength and conditioning and education every day as part of his recovery.

Lee crashed at Angelfire, New Mexico on June 1. He also collapsed lungs and broke ribs, and was airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque for emergency spinal surgery.

Last month, Krystal 93 spoke with Jamison’s dad, Dave Lee. He says his son is starting to “act like old Jamo.” The family is there, including mother, Gentry, and little brother, Jonah.

“We say we’re taking it a half-day at a time,” Dave Lee says. Jamison cannot move his legs.

Friends, family and strangers have rallied to help the Lees. More than 500 people have raised over $90,000 for him on Go Fund Me.

And another sliver of good news: Jamison was just accepted to Craig Hospital, the prestigious spinal rehab facility in Denver.

Dave Lee calls this “a nightmare.” He wishes the entire family could wake up.

But they cannot wait to be back in Colorado. If Jamison is stable through the weekend he could fly to Craig Hospital by next Tuesday.
