I-70 vehicle fire caught on camera by listeners and CDOT highway cams

A diesel pickup truck burst into flames this morning on eastbound I-70 approaching the Eisenhower Johnson tunnels, as it was towing a box truck.

The driver escaped unharmed – and the whole thing was captured on camera from two different angles.

A Krystal 93 listener was within a mile of the vehicle when it caught fire. The listener drove past and filmed the blaze just before authorities closed the road.

The next angle came from CDOT. The I-70 mountain corridor is littered with dozens of traffic cameras. One of the cameras, at Mile Point 210.65, caught this fire nearly the minute it erupted.

Firefighters arrived within 15 minutes and doused the flames. The fire did not spread beyond the lone vehicle.

One lane of traffic was moving again within 30 minutes.
