2 Leadville teens charged with attempted murder for off-campus shooting

A teenager was shot and two were arrested for attempted murder in Leadville this Monday, sending the local high school into lockdown.

In a statement from Monday, Aug. 11, Lake County School District reports two returning students confronted a new student on campus. All three were suspended and sent home for the day “per the school’s discipline protocols.”

A few hours later, around noon, the two threatening students confronted the other student again near Mountain View Village north of town, where the victim was shot in the arm, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Lake County High School was put on lockdown, meaning doors were locked, lights were turned off and students were told to hide out of sight. Every other school in the district was secured, meaning no one allowed in or out.

By 1:03 p.m. all three involved students were taken into custody. The victim was transported to the hospital and the lockdown was lifted.

Today, the two suspects are charged with attempted first-degree murder. The victim is out of the hospital and recovering. Names have not been released. No one else was involved and Leadville police say there is no lingering threat to students or the town.
