After two days of racing in Steamboat, the Summit High boys Nordic ski team claimed two individual wins and the team title in blowout fashion at the CHSAA state Nordic ski championships.

James Sowers won the 5K skate race today, finishing four seconds ahead of Charlie Wiedel of Steamboat Springs. A whopping seven Summit boys finished top-15 today, including Carter Niemkiewicz on the podium in third.

Carter was fresh off his own state title in Thursday’s 5K classic race, where James took second. (Last year the boys were flip-flopped – James in first, Carter in second. Machines!)

Summit’s Ella Hagen, the reigning 4A cross-country champion, spent the Nordic season chasing Isla Elton of Vail Mountain School. The two traded wins at every race they entered.

It was the same story at the championships, where Elton swept the skate and classic titles. Hagen finished second for skate and fourth for classic, the fastest Summit girl in both races.
