Summit’s near-record snowfall is making headlines. So is nearly 9 feet of snow already at Copper Mountain.
But don’t go sleeping on Nordic skiing!
Open now for the season are five of five public Nordic ski centers in Summit County: Frisco Nordic, Breckenridge Nordic (at Peak 8), Gold Run Nordic (at Breck Golf Club) and Keystone Nordic.
Also open now are two free Nordic loops at The Raven golf club, accessed from the golf clubhouse.
Rules vary slightly from center to center, but some constants include:
- Daily grooming for classic and skate
- Snowshoers are welcome on most trails
- Dogs are not (except some Gold Run trails)
- Fat bikes are not (except some Gold Run trails)
With more than 60 kilometers of trail combined, and access to hundreds more nearby, Nordic centers are the best-kept secret of ski country.
Most Nordic centers offer beginner lessons.
And the best part: When the slopes are slammed, Nordic centers are calm and quiet. It’s the perfect way to mix up your ski vacation, especially for kids and fitness junkies. Because believe us, you’ve never sweated this much – or felt your heart pumping this hard – until you’ve sprinted uphill on skis.
