Breckenridge Ski Area is closing for the season on Sunday, May 12. That is two weeks earlier than expected, despite reporting 16 inches of snow this month.
On Instagram Breck defends its choice:
Breck closes with turns on Peak 6 and Peak 7, and maybe upper Peak 8 on Imperial Chair and the T-Bar. You’ll have to take the bus from downtown Breck. The gondola is closed until summer gets going at Peak 8 on June 14.
Also closing for the season this Sunday are Loveland and Copper.
At Copper this is the second-latest closing day in history. Last time we were skiing and riding out of Center Village was the 1995-1996 season. There are two terrain parks, at the top and bottom of American Eagle.
And this just in: Copper will reopen Excelerator Chair for Saturday and Sunday, but with limited hours: noon to 4 p.m. daily.
At Loveland on Saturday, May 11, is the Neverland Banked Slalom. The snowboard-only race is a closing weekend tradition. Registration is full, but the spectating from Ptarmigan Lift is the best-kept not-so-secret of closing. Odds are good you’ll see a few current and OG pros ripping it up.
That leaves only Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park with chairlift turns in Colorado. Neither one has announced a closing date yet.
Last year Winter Park went to May 29. A-Basin went to June 4, one of the earliest in recent history. Rumor has it (and it’s a respectable rumor) A-Basin closing day this year is June 9.
