Manhunt puts Breck neighborhood on lock down, 1 man in custody

Note: Edited to correct when the suspect was arrested.

A 22-year-old man is in custody following a 2-hour lockdown in Breckenridge the night of July 31.

Breckenridge Police Department says the manhunt started with a felony menacing call in Warrior’s Mark.

The suspect, Santino Gallardo, 22, was then spotted at a store off Highway 9 and fled police.

“The subject fled on foot into the wooded area north of that location in the Highlands neighborhood,” Breck PD says in a press release. “Information was passed on that the subject was possibly carrying a weapon.”

This led to the lockdown on Huron Road. Hundreds of residents got a text alert at 8:06 p.m. There was some confusion when the initial alert read “Insert Authority” in place of Breckenridge Police Department.

Krystal 93 listeners reported police and Summit County Sheriff’s deputies were searching the woods with flashlights and automatic rifles.

By 10:37 p.m. the lockdown was lifted.

It was not until after midnight that the suspect was arrested on multiple warrants and suspected menacing. He was caught boarding a bus. Police have not said where the bus was headed.

Breck PD declines to comment, citing the investigation. Chief Jim Baird is out of town.
