Puppy thief caught and cuffed while 14 mules run amok in Frisco

This Thursday was a wild one for animals in Summit.

First, a herd of mules escaped from their stables at Frisco Adventure Park. The 14 draft mules bolted across Highway 9 around 2:30 p.m. and posted up in the meadows near St. Anthony Summit Hospital.

Most of the herd was spotted munching grass near the Flight For Life helipad when their owners, Two Below Zero sleigh rides, rounded them up with help from Summit County Animal Control.

“The draft mules do seem to break free and frolic every few years, but often stay on the Peninsula,” Vanessa Agee with town of Frisco said. Two Below Zero leases stable space from the town.

Soon after Krystal 93 took a call from Meg Leroux, manager at Summit County Animal Shelter.

“We have a litter of border terrier poodle puppies, and today around 5 o‘clock one of the puppies went missing,” she said. “There was an unusual white male here around that time asking about the puppies. We’re thinking it’s him.”

Within a few hours sheriff’s deputies spotted a man matching this description at the Summit Stage transfer station in Frisco – and in his arms was the missing puppy, Juniper.

Deputies retrieved the 6-week-old dog, safe and unharmed. The man was arrested on misdemeanor theft charges.

Juniper was reunited with his five siblings at the shelter.
