In the town’s first vote to overturn a project already approved by council, Dillon residents rejected a lakeview condo project and attached development district from Detroit developer Jake Porritt.
The project failed by a vote of 229 to 132. Roughly 35% of Dillon residents cast a vote for this mail-in election.
Another question, approving changes to the town’s petition process, passed by an even larger margin, 270 to 88.
Developer Jake Porritt and his group, Porritt Group, held numerous public meetings to explain their project to residents. Plans called for 270+ condos, retail, restaurants and cafes, a public park, and a public observation tower on the current site of Ptarmigan Lodge and defunct Arapahoe Cafe.
The attached planned unit development, or PUD, would have generated funding for promised future developments, including a downtown parking structure, workforce housing and new town hall.
The project was vehemently opposed by a small group of residents who started the petition to overturn council’s approval. This group was led by Louis Skowyra, husband of sitting mayor Carolyn Skowyra.
