An armed stranger in Frisco saved a woman from a beating after a car wreck on I-70.
It started the evening of March 26, when a car rolled over between Exit 201 and Exit 203 in Frisco. Summit County Sheriff’s Office reports the car came to rest in the backyard of a home.
That is where the suspect, Jovany Enriquez, 20, of Leadville, was seen beating his female passenger. Two separate witnesses reported the crash and unfolding assault.
As authorities were en route, the homeowner confronted the suspect in the backyard and drew a gun. The suspect fled and the homeowner took the victim inside.
Authorities found Enriquez soon after and arrested him on 11 charges, including first degree assault with extreme indifference, domestic violence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and driving under the influence.
“We always encourage people to be aware of their surroundings and to keep their doors locked for safety,” Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said in a statement. “In this case, the resident was not only aware of their surroundings and prepared but also chose to intervene to assist someone in danger, which was truly remarkable.”
Enriquez remains in Summit County Jail on $25,000 bond.
