Minka makes her first drug bust, and the ‘jury duty scam’

Minka, the new K9 at Summit County Sheriff’s Office, made her first drug bust recently.

On May 21 deputies stopped a woman for speeding on Highway 9 near Tigers Road north of Breckenridge. Minka was called to the scene and sniffed out the fentanyl pills stashed inside the woman’s car.

The suspect was arrested and charged with possession.

Minka revived the Summit K9 program when a local couple donated $19,000 to pay for her. The sheriff’s previous K9, Blue, died unexpectedly last summer.

Another new scam

Scamsters are trying out another new con. In this one they call you about missed jury duty, and then they try to get your personal information.

One Summit local recognized this as a scam and hung up without compromising his info. He reported it to the sheriff’s office.

A reminder that legitimate authorities will never call you about jury duty, warrants, tickets, traffic fees, or other official proceedings, and they will never request that you pay in gift cards.
