Summer ain’t over. And neither is road work season.
Starting today a pair of popular local roads are closed to traffic, impacting thousands of travelers daily.
Swan Mountain
First up is Swan Mountain Road, where the road is closed completely between Prospector Campground and Sapphire Point until the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 15. There is no through-traffic on Swan Mountain, even at night.
Campers with a reservation can still reach campgrounds from the Breckenridge side.
Summit’s multi-year rebuild of Swan comes with multiple full and partial closures. Check daily updates on the county website.

U.S. 6 at Loveland Pass
Next are daytime closures on U.S. 6 at Loveland Pass. CDOT is patching the asphalt at 13,000 feet and closing access from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through Thursday, Aug. 14.
You can expect hazmat holds at the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnels all this week – westbound at the top of the hour, eastbound at the bottom of the hour.
This Loveland Pass closure does not impact access to Arapahoe Basin or Loveland Ski area.
Floyd Hill and Vail pass
Bookending Summit are the two largest projects in CDOT history at Floyd Hill, near Idaho Springs, and Vail pass. Together they are worth nearly $1 billion.
Happening all this week at Floyd Hill are staggered closures for rock scaling. CDOT says to expect 20-minute holds with up to 45 minutes until traffic returns to normal. Krystal 93 listeners reports delays of up to three hours this morning.
