A Summit County sheriff’s deputy narrowly avoided catastrophe when his patrol car was hit by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 9 near Breck.
The deputy was away from his vehicle for a traffic stop when the DUI suspect slammed into it. The drunk driver then sped away. He was caught soon after by Frisco police and sent to jail. No one was injured.
Injured pooch on Quandary
A dog on Quandary Peak injured its paw last weekend, Aug. 16-17, and then things got stressful.
Summit County Rescue Group says the dog’s owner tried carrying the critter down the mountain but was soon exhausted and lightheaded. She could not go any further.
That’s when rescuers scrambled up the trail with oxygen for the owner and a wheeled litter for the dog. Both made it back down without incident.
Waterfall close call
A hiker broke fingers and dislocated a knee after tumbling 10 feet from a waterfall at Lower Blue Lakes south of Breck.
Rescuers found the man and helped him hike to the trailhead under his own power. He took himself to the hospital.
