A gas leak near the base of Peak 8 in Breckenridge is now safely contained, the second there in less than a week.
No one was injured or evacuated today, according to Matt Benedict at Red White & Blue Fire. A portion of Ski Hill Road was closed and is open again with alternating single-lane traffic.
But fixing the leak was not easy. Xcel Energy had to pinch it off from both sides, rather than fix the source of the leak itself. That added several hours to the response. Firefighters remained on scene in case the line ruptured further or caught fire.

This is the same problem and solution from last week in roughly the same area, where Breckenridge Grand Vacations is working on its latest development.
Benedict says the fire department sees a spike in ruptured gas lines this time of year, as construction crews are scrambling to finish groundwork before winter.
