There will be no Thanksgiving tubing or Nordic skiing in Frisco

Town of Frisco made a tough call today, confirming the tubing hill and Nordic ski trails at Frisco Adventure Park will not be open for Thanksgiving visitors.

Recent warm weather is to blame. Barely half of the tubing hill is covered in snow, and all of it is man-made. Hardly any of the Nordic trails are snowy.

Frisco officials hope to open the tubing hill and Nordic center by Dec. 4. The beginner ski and ride hill, served by a carpet lift, tentatively opens Dec. 11. The terrain park and rope tow open Dec. 19.

Two Below sleigh rides open on time, this coming Saturday, Nov. 22, but with a horse-drawn chuck wagon instead of a sleigh.

Warm, dry days and near-historically low snowfall is the tale of winter so far in Summit County. Local snowpack is 23% of average today, in the bottom fifth percentile since 1986. Daily temperatures have been well above average since October, coming close to record highs several times in the past month.
