Beaver Creek delays opening day turns, but not opening day cookies

There will be no corduroy at Beaver Creek tomorrow, but there will be fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies.

Resort officials say there is simply not enough snow to open right now. They’ve seen just 10 inches of snow since October.

“Mother Nature ran a little late for the 2025/26 ski and ride season,” reads a Beaver Creek press release. “With mild temps lingering longer than usual at lower elevations, we’re giving winter a little extra time to ensure we open with the quality experience guests expect of the resort and delaying our Opening Day until we can guarantee those conditions.”

You read that right – Beaver Creek still doesn’t know when there will be enough snow to open. Snowmakers have been busy blowing snow on the Birds of Prey racecourse, trying to prep a full downhill (!!) in time for World Cup ski races in two weeks, Dec. 2-7.

The Beav really does battle elevation this time of year. The village sits just under 8,100 feet. That’s 1,500 vertical feet lower than Main Street Breckenridge.

But what about the cookies?

Good thing you don’t need snow for the Beav’s other famous attribute: those fresh – and free – cookies at the base of the mountain. The annual Beaver Creek Cookie Contest returns on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Come to the village from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a selection of chocolate chip cookies from five local bakers. The winning cookie chef wins $2,000 and a feature in the Vail Daily.
