Man charged with misdemeanor for striking, killing Silverthorne pedestrian

A man is charged with careless driving resulting in death for a fatal pedestrian collision in Silverthorne on Jan. 10.

Authorities believe Max Gordon Miller, 46, hit the victim, Karen Rae Fox, 74, of Silverthorne, as she was walking her dog near town hall around 1 p.m.

Early evidence shows Fox was crossing Blue River Parkway when the traffic light turned green. Miller reportedly turned right onto the parkway from 6th Street, striking her in the intersection. She died soon after. Miller remained on the scene.

The District Attorney’s office announced charges today. Careless driving resulting in death is a Class 1 traffic misdemeanor. If guilty Miller faces up to one year in jail, fines and license penalties.

Lawmakers in 2025 updated the law to include careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. The revised law did not change penalties for fatal collisions.

Silverthorne shared this message one day after the incident: “Town of Silverthorne is deeply saddened to share that a pedestrian and vehicle collision occurred yesterday, which resulted in a pedestrian fatality. Silverthorne shares our sincere condolences and sympathy to the pedestrian’s family and friends in this tragic collision.”
