Open for business is the new and improved FIRC Community Food Market at the FIRC’s new home, the Sol Center in north Breckenridge.
“Everything is so efficient and built just for the sole purpose of getting food out to our community,” Snow tells Krystal 93. “We couldn’t be more excited.”
The new Breck food market is open Wednesdays and Thursdays by appointment only, like a food bank fueled by Instacart. Make your order online the day before you want to pick up. They’ll have it boxed and ready when you arrive.
“We know that most of our folks are working and trying to fit this into their busy schedules,” Snow says. “This seems to work really well for everyone.”
The Dillon food market is still open on Tuesdays.
The rest of the $14 million Sol Center is not yet open for business. The remainder of the campus, like an upgraded thrift store and nonprofit offices, should be ready by early March.
Snow believes the food market could not wait.
“This market is still important, especially this year when we do not have the snow we usually have, people’s hours are being reduced,” Snow says. “People are really struggling to make rent and be able to afford food. We’re seeing a bunch of people we’ve never really seen before, seeing people that have never had to rely on a food bank before.”
Snow promises a grand opening when everyone has moved into the Sol Center, saying, “This was built by the community. We want to say ‘thank you’ to everyone.’”
