Mikaela Shiffrin and sponsor Adidas today released a new documentary on the eve of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
It tells her incredible story, from Colorado bunny slopes to World Cup records, through the eyes of her mother Eileen Shiffrin – the one person who knows her best.
The 16-minute documentary features intimate footage shot by Eileen at hotels and ski slopes across the globe, dating back to her first days on skis. The U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain makes a cameo. So does the Shiffrin’s home in Eagle County.
Turns out, Eileen was a ripping skier in her day too. She and her husband, Jeff, both raced in high school. Jeff went on to race at Dartmouth and spent countless hours teaching young Mikaela everything he knew about the sport, including after-dark sessions on a tracked-out slalom course.
But it is Mikaela’s career that is front and center. There is archival footage from her first win in 2012 at 17 years old, followed by unseen footage from a devastating wreck in 2024 as she was chasing her 100th World Cup win. She and her mother also reflect somberly on Jeff, who died in 2020 from a head injury suffered in a fall.
At least twice in her career Mikaela has considered leaving the sport, first when her father died and again after her 2024 injury. Today, she is chasing gold at her fourth Olympics and keeps dominating the World Cup circuit, where she owns the record of 108 career victories.
