UPDATE: Body found in Summit Cove identified as Dillon man

UPDATE April 30:

A 27-year-old Dillon man, Fernando Ruiz Hernandez, has been identified as the person found dead near Summit Cove late Saturday.

Cause of death is pending autopsy. Authorities still do not suspect foul play.

Our original report from April 28:

The Summit County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the discovery of a body near Summit Cove. It was found in a field around 7:20pm Saturday evening by a local hiker.

They have not been able to determine the identity yet but have determined the person was an adult Hispanic male. According to the Summit County Sheriff’s press release, there do not appear to be any obvious indications of foul play and they are not concerned for the public’s safety at this time.

Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons was quoted in the release saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss of life.”

The investigation is still active. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information regarding this case to call Detective Sergeant Mark Gafari at (970) 423-8960.
