Breck Create is singing a younger tune for the Riverwalk Center

The town-funded creative district hopes to attract more and better music to the Riverwalk Center during the fall and winter, when it says attendance is traditionally lower. It hasn’t announced a concert list, except to say a younger audience is top of the list.

“The purpose of this campaign is to restore consistent animation and energy to the Arts District and to reestablish Breckenridge as a place where live music contributes to community connection and downtown vitality year-round,” a Breck Create memo to the town reads. “A key component of this strategy is engaging Gen Z and Millennial audiences — both visitors and workforce — who are seeking authentic, social, experience-driven entertainment.”

Breck Create wants to open its new campaign with a bang:

  • A free outdoor concert at Blue River Plaza on July 4
  • Two indoor ticketed concerts at the Riverwalk during BIFA in August (the arts fest)
  • Up to eight ticketed concerts at the Riverwalk between September 2026 and March 2027

Breck Create says it has already raised $52,000 for this campaign from more than 13 local businesses, including Breckenridge Grand Vacations, the Summit Chamber and Downstairs at Eric’s, which is owned by former mayor and sitting county commissioner Eric Mamula.

Now it needs more, asking the town for $50,000 to meet its goal of $100,000 annually through 2028.

“This initiative is both a relaunch and a strategic reset. Breck Create will engage a regional talent buyer working on Breckenridge’s behalf, pilot new artist relationships, and rebuild credibility in a competitive booking landscape,” the memo continues. At the same time, we are retraining audiences who have been without consistent ticketed popular music.”

This relaunch could be a blessing for the Riverwalk, which has struggled in recent years. In 2024 just about every live concert lost money totaling more than $75,000. At the time the town denied more money for better acts.
