Breckenridge Resort is putting its money where its mouth is with summer upgrades at Breckenridge Terrace on Airport Road.
Those are the employee apartments where heat and hot water failed during a deep freeze in January, when temperatures barely crawled out of the single digits for a week.
“We’re going to replace a bunch of furniture (and) appliances. We’re going to redo some floors and add to the fire panels, and then some continued boiler upgrades as well,” Breck Resort COO John Copeland told Breck town council this week. “Some of that has already kicked off and started.”
During the January deep freeze, dozens of employees held an impromptu one-day strike in protest of living conditions. Some told Krystal 93 they had been without hot water for months. Others dealt with flooding from frozen pipes.
Soon after the strike, Copeland stood up a special maintenance team to fix broken equipment, saying at the time conditions were “completely unacceptable.”
