Summit’s largest mental health nonprofit, Building Hope, just won a $500,000 grant from the CEO of Vail Resorts.
This award is one of 12 given to mental health programs in six western states through the Katz Amsterdam Foundation, co-founded by Vail executive Rob Katz and his late wife, Elana Amsterdam.
“Mental health and substance use challenges are significant nationwide, but mountain communities often face unique barriers like geography and provider shortages,” Katz said. “These grants reflect our belief that everyone—regardless of race, background, or location—deserves access to mental and behavioral health care.”
This year alone the foundation awards $3.2 million. In the past decade it has pumped nearly $30 million into mountain communities where Vail has a footprint.
This year’s gift is bittersweet. Amsterdam passed away this February at 57 years old after a 3-year battle with cancer. She was a New York Times bestselling cookbook author and founder of Elana’s Pantry, sharing gluten-free recipes and wellness advice.
