Car chase on snowy Berthoud Pass ends in crash, cuffs

A wanted felon is in custody after a snowy car chase on Berthoud Pass yesterday.

U.S. Highway 40 at Berthoud was closed when Randy Calvin, 33, swerved past deputies on the Winter Park side of the pass, and then speed to the summit.

Deputies caught up to Calvin when he crashed avoiding a snowplow. He was arrested after a brief foot chase. No one was injured.

Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin says, “All too common in today’s society, the rule of law is questioned, which ultimately puts our communities at risk from those who choose to put their own agendas at the forefront over the safety of other citizens. This behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Grand County, where we will continue to enforce the law and arrest those that violate it.”

Calvin was wanted on a parole violation.
