Dreaming of a white Christmas? What history and the forecast say.

We are all dreaming of a white Christmas in ski country, but what are the odds of at least one inch of new snow tomorrow? History shows they’re not as good as you might think. However, the forecast gives us a little hope: in Summit County there is a slight chance of snow in the morning, then a chance of snow in the afternoon.

Believe it or not, the odds of a white Christmas are actually better in Denver. Over the past 114 years, 16 Christmases had fresh snow here in Summit.

According to the official record keeping station in Dillon, it’s more likely to hit 40°. THAT has happened 22 times on Christmas day.  The snowiest Christmas ever here was 2017, with 10 inches, the coldest ever, 1924 with a high of -4.  It bottomed out at negative 44 that day.

The coldest Christmas in the past 30 years was 2009 at 12 degrees.
