Federal immigration agents were back in Summit County this morning for the second time in two weeks.
Krystal 93 confirms at least six agents detained one person in Dillon Valley around 8:15 a.m. Video from an apartment complex shows the unidentified suspect in zip ties being led to unmarked cars.
Summit Daily reports five people were detained near the Super 8 motel en route to a Dillon worksite.
The homeland security field office in Denver did not return a message from Krystal 93, requesting information on charges for the detained individuals. Local officials are also in the dark.
“We’ve had no outreach whatsoever from any Federal law enforcement agencies,” Summit County commissioner Tamara Pogue tells Krystal 93. “Like many in our community, we are heartbroken by the impact that some of these operations are having.”
On Sept. 16, Federal agents raided a duplex in Dillon and a Mexican restaurant in Frisco, questioning employees and confiscating computers. Agents said they were serving criminal search warrants.
Today, an unnamed source at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, tells the Summit Daily agents are on a “mission of identifying and removing criminal aliens and others who have violated our nation’s immigration laws.”
Pogue questions this “criminal” rationale.
“Our Latino community is no more or less likely to engage in criminal activity than any other community in Summit County,” Pogue says.
Summit School District is reassuring parents today schools are safe places for all kids. Teachers will never share information about students or families. On Facebook the district writes, “We are committed to protecting the rights, dignity and privacy of every student.”
