FRIGHT NIGHTS at the Eclipse brings Casper and Freddy Krueger to Breckenridge

What’s your favorite scary movie?

That’s what the folks at Breck Film Fest asked Krystal 93 news director Phil Lindeman a few weeks ago. His answer was FRIGHT NIGHTS at the Eclipse – a collection of his favorite scary movies spanning four decades of horror.

“Most of these films I’ve only seen on the small screen,” Lindeman said on the Krystal 93 morning show with Tom Fricke. “I can’t wait to see them on the big screen with a live audience. There’s something special about it, like hearing Jim Jones on vinyl and then seeing him on stage. It can make what’s old feel new again.”

FRIGHT NIGHTS is coming to the Eclipse Theater in downtown Breckenridge Oct 19-20 and Oct. 23-24 with family-friendly frights at 5:30 p.m. and adult horror at 7:30 p.m.

Get tickets online or at the door.

BONUS! Krystal 93 is hosting a kid’s costume contest for opening weekend Oct. 19-20! Wear a costume to “Monster House” or “Casper” to win prizes.

We’re also hosting horror movie trivia for prizes after all four adult screenings. Stick around to win!

Saturday, Oct. 19 and Wednesday, Oct. 23

“Monster House” @ 5:30 p.m.

You never forget your first haunted house! In “Monster House,” a trio of pre-teens goes hunting for the ghosts and ghouls haunting the creepiest house on the block. This is the newest film at FRIGHT NIGHTS and it’s guaranteed to be a hit with the kids, featuring lovable heroes, memorable animation and scares that aren’t TOO scary.

“A Nightmare on Elm Street” @ 7:30 p.m.

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you… Wes Craven’s horror masterpiece turns 40 this year (!!) and it has aged like fine, blood-red wine. A group of teenagers fight for their sanity and lives when the neighborhood boogeyman starts picking them off in their dreams. It’s a killer concept cranked up to 11 with Craven’s eye for gore and special FX, plus an early appearance by Johnny Depp as a doomed heartthrob.

Sunday, Oct. 20 and Thursday, Oct. 24

“Casper” @ 5:30 p.m.

Can you believe Casper has been on screen for almost 80 years? The friendly ghost debuted in 1945 with dozens of TV appearances, but it wasn’t until 1995 when he made the jump to live-action film. A very young Christina Ricci stars as the heroine who befriends the ghost when she moves into his creepy old mansion overlooking the sea. It’s silly, charming and filled with laughs, especially when Casper’s mischievous uncles appear.

“The Descent” @ 7:30 p.m.

Filmed on a shoestring budget with little fanfare, this survival horror classic will stick with you long after the credits roll. An all-ladies group of adrenaline junkies meets up for a caving adventure in North Carolina, where a series of poor decisions – and plain bad luck – sends them plummeting into physical and emotional trauma. The less said about this overlooked legend, the better. But be ready to cringe, squirm and scream.
