Frisco is paying you to be in the July 4th parade this year

What are you doing for Independence Day in Summit County?

Town of Frisco wants to see you at the annual Fourth of July parade on Main Street. And Frisco will pay you to be there.

The town arts and culture council has a pot of stipend money for July Fourth floats, awarding individuals up to $500 each and businesses up to $1000.

The money is not unlimited. Frisco has eight awards for individuals and three for businesses. But with that kind of cash, the sky is the limit for “artful and whimsical floats.”

According to the town, your float application “should include a simple design description and at least one sketch of the design. Stipends will be awarded on a rolling basis as long as funds are available and designs are uniquely artful and whimsical celebrations of July 4th in Frisco.”

Applications are due June 15 for the stipend money.

Another perk: This year’s parade is motorized again. For several years it was human-powered only, meaning bikes, trikes and wheelbarrows. Welcoming cars, trucks and tractors again opens the gates to all kinds of creativity.

But wait, there’s more! Not only will Frisco pay you to be there, the town is paying cash for top floats. First place wins $1,000, second place wins $500, third place wins $250.

Register your float by July 1. The parade is at 1 p.m, followed by a free Main Street concert with opener Frisco Funk Collective at 4 p.m. and headliner The Motet at 5:45 p.m.
