From Saas Fe to New Zealand, this Team Summit halfpipe skier is taking on the world

The first super pipe in North America is still being built at Copper Mountain, but Team Summit skier Evan Wischmeyer already has dozens of laps under his belt.

“That was kind of the fun part about Europe, is like 60 laps a day,” Evan tells Krystal 93 news director Phil Lindeman. “It was insane. You could just play.”

Evan is fresh off a training trip to the early-season hot bed of Saas Fe, Switzerland. If you love halfpipe riding and spend any time on Instagram, it’s been all over your feed for weeks now.

“It’s kind of surreal,” Evan says. “You’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’m with the big guys.’ It pushes me, really watching them and what they do, watch their training regimen.”

A few weeks before Saas Fe he competed at his first World Cup of the season – and second of his career – in New Zealand.

“It’s the best for the best,” he says of the competition in Cardrona, where he finished 23rd. “It’s fun, it pushes me. It kind of changes my outlook on things and gets me excited to become better.”

Now he’s back in summit, where he’s training for an invite to the next World Cup – the U.S. Grand Prix at Copper.

“We have to thank the community a lot for all the things they’ve done for us, and especially Copper Mountain for giving us the opportunity,” he says.

Evan is barely 18 years old. His ski career is just getting started.

“Thinking about it as a blank canvas and you’re the artist you’re drawing on it,” Evan says. “So I think it’s super cool to just create your own path.”
