Incumbents (mostly) rule on town council Election Day in Summit

One of the busiest local elections in recent years ended with many of the same candidates coming back for another term.

Out of 32 candidates in four towns, 10 of them were incumbents, and all but two defended their seats.

In Frisco, incumbent Zach Ryan lost to newcomer Thayer Hirsh by the slimmest margin of the day – just eight votes. Frisco’s election results are not official until Friday, meaning there is an even slimmer chance this close race could flip when every ballot is confirmed.

Returning to council in Frisco are Andy Held, Elizabeth Skrzypczak-Adrian and Robyn Goldstein. Like Ryan, Goldstein was appointed to her seat in recent years.

In Dillon, Joshua Samuel is the new mayor, defeating Renee Imamura by nearly double the votes. Imamura was one of three councilmembers booted from office in a contentious recall election last year.

In Silverthorne, Kevin MacDonald is the new mayor, winning by default as the only candidate. This is MacDonald’s first stint as mayor after two previous full terms as a councilman (2006-2010 and 2017-2022). Joining him are incumbents Erin Young, Bruce Butler and Jonnah Glassman. All three easily defended their seats.

In Breckenridge, Carol Saade and Jay Beckerman are back, joined by newcomer Emily Lutke.

Dillon’s charter rewritten

Dillon voters rewrote the town charter through seven ballot questions, approving all but one of them.

This denied measure, Question F, would have given the town more control over private property.

Another measure, Question E, passed by just 16 votes. It lets the town raise or lower municipal utility rates, like sewer, through a resolution instead of an ordinance. Resolutions are often easier to pass than ordinances, but also easier to change.
