‘Issues, not individuals’: Dillon adopts townwide ‘civility code’ after a tense year

It has been a tumultuous 12 months in the town of Dillon.

This past April a small group of locals, including the husband of sitting mayor Carolyn Skowyra, launched a petition to overturn a controversial lakeview condo project from Detroit developer Jake Porritt. It was the first such petition in town history – and Dillon has been around since 1883

After successfully quashing the development, another group of locals petitioned to recall three council members they said were ignoring the public. The ensuing recall election was the first in Summit County history. Three sitting members were successfully ousted by three challengers, including two who led the petition.

“We have to represent the public, which is the platform we ran on,” newcomer Barb Richard told Krystal 93. She continues, “We have to build that process back in.”

Tonight, Dillon’s latest town council votes to enshrine civility in the town code, when it adopts Resolution No. 17-25, a “resolution pledging to practice and promote civility in the town.”
