UPDATE Masked suspect in custody matching description of Bill’s Ranch burglar

May 1, 11:25 a.m. — A man is in local custody matching the description of a masked burglar who evaded police in Bill’s Ranch yesterday.

Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirms the man was caught this morning trying to break into a car in Frisco. He was wearing a mask and fled on foot when confronted, before he was caught by Frisco PD with support from Silverthorne and Dillon cops.

Authorities have not identified the suspect and charges are pending. The burglar who evaded police yesterday was also wearing a mask when he disappeared for more than 12 hours.

Earlier today, before the arrest, Summit Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons predicted this is how it would go down, but not so soon.

April 30 5:20 p.m. — A lockout is lifted and a burglary suspect is on the lam after a tense hour in Bill’s Ranch near Frisco.

Starting at 3:35 p.m. Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirms a suspicious man was spotted in a dark facemask near Moonstone Road in Breckenridge. The masked man fled authorities and sped toward Frisco in a stolen vehicle.

At 3:40 p.m. dozens of residents in Bill’s Ranch were told to lock their doors as sheriff’s deputies searched for the man, described as slim and average height, wearing all black and carrying a blue backpack.

Just over one hour later authorities confirmed they could not locate the suspect. They believe the man had fled on foot, leaving behind the stolen vehicle. It has been traced to the Front Range.

No one was injured between Breck and Bill’s Ranch.

The sheriff’s office is now collecting evidence, including fingerprints and DNA.

ORIGINAL (Frisco) — Dozens of residents in Bill’s Ranch are on lockdown this afternoon as authorities actively search for a burglary suspect.

Details are emerging. Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirms the unnamed burglary suspect ran from authorities around 4 p.m. They do not know if the suspect is armed. They have been searching by ground and drone for nearly one hour.

Deputies tell residents of Bill’s Ranch to stay inside and lock their doors. Other neighborhoods are not affected.

Nearby Frisco Elementary School is not threatened. A school resource officer is there, providing security for after-school programs.
