Your trip into Heeney just got a bit longer from the north.
Starting on Monday, Aug. 6, Summit County Road and Bridge is closing nearly a mile of Heeney Road on the north side of town for rockfall mitigation. This stretch will remain closed on weekdays, including overnight, for up to eight weeks. It reopens on weekends. The above photo is courtesy of Summit County Government.
Now the good news. If you come from Silverthorne, you will hardly notice a thing. The south end of Heeney Road remains open with easy access to the marina.
If you come from Kremmling, you will detour around Green Mountain Reservoir, adding up to a half-hour into Heeney.
Northern access to the Willows Campground and the Big Green Boat Ramp should not be impacted. The Heeney Marina, CR 1812, and other community amenities will be accessible from the south.
“Rock scaling is a massive undertaking with significant safety concerns for both travelers and the people working on the project,” deputy county manager Steve Greer said in a statement. “Closures like this can be extremely inconvenient but are necessary to protect the traveling public and construction workers. Keeping the road closed during the work week will allow us to complete the project by this fall.”
This rockfall work is funded by a CDOT grant worth $500,000.
