A pedestrian was struck and killed by a town of Vail snowplow early this morning.
Denver 7 broke the news, reporting the unnamed pedestrian was dead on scene when emergency personnel arrived. Identification is pending an autopsy through Eagle County coroner.
Town officials confirm the victim was struck around 8:30 a.m. near Glacier Court in West Vail, just north of I-70 in a neighborhood near the Buffehr Creek trailhead.
This is the first time in town history a person has been killed by a town-operated plow. The plow driver, who has not been named or charged, has been plowing roads in Vail for five years.
In January 2022 an 11-year-old boy, Lewis Browning, was struck and killed by a private vehicle in the Lionshead parking structure. Following an investigation the suspected driver, from Avon, was not charged.
