You can soon take a bus to one of the most popular overlooks in Summit County.
Starting April 20 Summit Stage is launching the X Flyer, connecting Silverthorne to Breckenridge and Frisco to Arapahoe Basin over Swan Mountain Road.
In the middle, forming the “X,” is a brand-new bus stop at Sapphire Point, where weddings are booked out months, and squirrels the size of raccoons just might swipe your selfie stick.
The X Flyer is a riff on the winter-time Swan Mountain Flyer, but with big changes to its crisscrossing routes:
- Frisco Transfer Center >> Summit High School >> Sapphire Point >> Summit Cove >> Keystone Lodge >> River Run >> Arapahoe Basin and back again
- Breckenridge Station >> Summit High School >> Sapphire Point >> Summit Cove >> Silverthorne Station and back again
The X Flyer runs seven days per week, every other hour, but not always to A-Basin. The bus only goes there if A-Basin is open (through early to mid-June for skiing). When it’s closed the bus stops at Keystone River Run.
Speaking of Sapphire…
Sapphire Point is closed to buses, cars and all human visitors for most of June, and again in the fall.
The U.S. Forest Service is renovating the parking lot June 2 to June 5 and again June 9 to June 20.
Sapphire Point is closed again Sept. 1 to Nov. 15 for trail and overlook upgrades. No comment from the squirrels.
