Authorities in the Colorado high country and nationwide are responding to social media threats made in the wake of last week’s deadly school shooting in Georgia.
Several anonymous posts have named dozens of schools paired with threatening images, including firearms.
Summit County schools are not on any of these lists, confirms Summit County sheriff Jaime FitzSimons.
“We will continue to monitor this until we get some answers, ” FitzSimons tells Krystal 93 news director Phil Lindeman. “Parents can expect to see a heightened law enforcement presence around the schools today out of caution.”
Some Eagle County schools are on one list. The superintendent there says local and federal authorities found no credible threat.
Schools in Denver, Texas, Ohio and elsewhere were named on this list. The FBI is tracking down the source of the post. Some schools east of Colorado closed last week.
In New Jersey three suspects are in custody for an unrelated rash of school threats, according to USA Today.
