Silverthorne wins bid to buy Silver Inn hotel

The Silver Inn hotel on Highway 9 will soon belong to the town of Silverthorne, most likely as another key part of its burgeoning downtown.

The town made a winning bid of nearly $5.28 million at a property auction last month, nearly two years after the owner declined a slightly smaller offer from the town.

In early 2024, Silverthorne wanted to buy the hotel for about $4.9 million. The owner rejected this amount, even though it was based on the latest assessment, according to a town memo.

Fast-forward to November this year and the owner was willing to sell the two-story, 30-room hotel on 1.24 acres. Town council signed off on the winning bid. At this week’s meeting council approves the money to close it.

What comes next? The hotel sits two blocks north of Fourth Street Crossing, where the “acquisition of the Silver Inn provides numerous opportunities” for more development, the memo concludes.
