It’s still August, so you would be forgiven for thinking it’s still summer. But you’d be wrong—as far as major coffee shops are concerned, anyway.
The wait for “pumpkin spice season” is almost over!
Starbucks announced its Pumpkin Spice Lattes would return Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Dunkin’ announced its autumn-inspired drink will be released Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Since the drink’s 2003 launch, the Pumpkin Spice Latte has quickly grown to be Starbucks’ most popular seasonal beverage, with hundreds of millions sold. It was just the third seasonal beverage introduced by Starbucks, after the Eggnog Latte and the Peppermint Mocha.
Despite the name, pumpkin spice isn’t actually made with pumpkins. It’s a blend of baking spices that are generally considered “warm” in the cooking world. The spices typically include cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves and allspice.
The mix gets its name because it’s commonly used to add some extra flavor to pumpkin pies: https://www.9news.com/article/news/nation-world/pumpkin-spice-latte-returns-starbucks-dunkin-release-date/507-5f79735b-326b-4fdf-8ce4-ac65691b849a
