A pair of hikers lost their way on snowy Quandary Peak yesterday afternoon and were trapped in a couloir. Above photo is from Summit County Rescue Group.
Summit County Rescue Group reports the two hikers slid about 100 feet down a snowy southern face of the Breckenridge 14er. One was injured when they slipped. They called for help around 2 p.m.
Rescuers radioed Flight For Life and the Army National Guard. Flight For Life transported rescuers into the field, while a National Guard Black Hawk surveyed the rescue area. Pilots and rescuers decided it was too risky for a hoist operation.
Rescuers reached the stranded hikers by foot and helped them descend the couloir. Both safely made it off the mountain, but it was a long night. Rescuers were in the field until 10 p.m.
