Another weekend, another win for the Summit High mountain bike team.
The Tigers went to the Haymaker Course in Eagle County this past weekend and claimed six top-5 finishes, including first place overall for Marin Little in the sophomore girls division.
Senior Finn Brown had the best finish for an upperclassman, claiming sixth in the varsity boys division. Fellow senior Fiona Florio took 15th for varsity girls.
But the future looks bright for Summit’s youngest riders. They dominated the standings:
- First… Marin Little, sophomore girls
- Second… Elliot Drumwright, freshman boys
- Second… Lucy Greenwood, freshman girls
- Fourth… Maeve Niemkiewicz, freshman girls
- Fifth… Nico Florio, sophomore boys
- Fifth… Piper Rabinowitz, sophomore girls

Summit is making a splash in its inaugural season as a Division I team, racing against the likes of Salida and Montrose. Summit’s closest competition is Chatfield, claiming second place by fewer than 200 points at Haymaker. At the season opener in Frisco the Chatfield team was more than 500 points behind.
Also making a splash: The team spirit contest. Every high school race has one, and the theme at Haymaker was “temporary tattoos.” Riders were crossing the finish line covered with fresh ink on their arms, legs, hands and even their upper lips, where Sharpie mustaches were the Summit signature.
This is nearly the halfway point of high school mountain bike season. Up next Summit heads to Leadville for the Cloud City Stampede Sept. 20-21 before the regular-season finale in Nathrop Oct. 4-5. The state championships are in Glenwood Springs Oct. 18-19.
