Summit County today obliterated the first of maybe three high temperature records this week as the dreaded “heat dome” blankets the West.
Around midday today the mercury hit 65 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the record-keeping weather station in Dillon. That beats the record of 61 degrees from 2017. These are the only two years Summit has cracked 60 degrees on March 19 in over a century of record keeping.
The next two days, Friday and Saturday, could be downright feverish with predicted highs in the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service. The Dillon station has never broken 70 degrees in mid-March.
Summit already set new high-temp records in three consecutive days earlier this ski season during Christmas.
